Book Review:
A book with a slow start that makes you wonder if it was worth it.
I sincerely applaud Smith, who took the time to describe each incident. The visual imagery was incredibly detailed as if you were watching it in a movie. Personally, I didn’t like it as it feels too draggy.
The book description didn’t really tell much about the story. All I understood from it was that the fallen civilization of America seemed to be a myth and an archaeologist wanted to discover its remnants. I didn’t expect much.
Being unfamiliar with American history, it was a setback. There were a lot of terms that I am unfamiliar with that could’ve made me enjoy this book much more. There was also quite a lot of symbolism that I did not understand, which made this book a little difficult to read. Time and time again I would just read the whole chapter but couldn’t grasp enough of it to be satisfied. What I do know is if you aren’t familiar with America, the laws and the history, this book will be challenging.
The main character, Doc was an enigma. Until now, all I know is that he is quite a gentleman in terms of his actions. His personality had not been explored much and the book really stuck to the talking about America and revolutions. The relationships between the characters were also not very established.
If you’d like to read about how a single action could change the fate of the world, this should be the book to read. If you’d also like to know how the future would be like if martial law would continue and be extreme, you should definitely pick up this book.
