My rating: 5 of 5 stars
What a skillfully written book. Agatha Christie seems to be very aware of parallels between her Poirot and the equally acclaimed Holmes. She creates amusing situations that focus a lot on the ‘little grey cells’, which indeed do set Poirot apart.
I absolutely loved this book. The whole idea of ‘crime intime’, just wow. Very very intelligent, hinting at two definitely personalities that emerge. I find it very difficult to elaborate on Christie’s amazingness without spoilers but I must not write any more on this point.
There are, no doubt, some parts that are slightly unexplained about ABC, and that’s the only thing that disappointed me because I love it when all the loose ends are neatly tied up. Apart from that, I absolutely loved it, as I love my entire collection of Agatha Christies. This is one of my favorite Christie books.
Anyone on the lookout for mysteries, do ensure you read everything Agatha Christie has ever written. That would satiate you for a good few months, and re-reading them after years, as I do, will bring back the same feeling. Though at subsequent readings you do know who the culprit is – and hence it adds a second layer of amazing to the experience, because you can pick up on all the little hints that you may not have picked up on during the first reading. And trust me, there is always something that one misses on the first reading.
Go for it!
